Increasing
demands for more
complex shaped
preforms and,
in some cases,
additional Z-axis
fiber reinforcement
has stimulated
the advancement
of preform stitching
processes at
Fiber
Innovations.
Combinations
of braided
fabrics
or braided
and
woven fabrics
are stitched
to net shape
prior
to insertion
into the resin
transfer mold.
In
addition to producing
preforms of complex
shapes, stitching
also provides
a means of joining
multiple components
in the fabrication
of an assembly
while providing
additional structural
reinforcement.
The
stitching process
at Fiber
Innovations has been
successfully employed
for the fabrication
of a variety of
complex shaped
preforms such
is “I”, “J” and “T” section
stiffeners. |
